Revisions to the Individual Education Plan (I.E.P.) Process

That in order to make IEPs more accessible for students and parents, BCCPAC urge the Ministry to: re-write and widely publicize the IEP policy and procedure, in parent-friendly language and format; and ensure the opportunity for the active involvement of the parent, student and teacher in writing up and signing off the IEP; and structure the IEP as a long-term planning tool covering more than one school year; and include a future component and a transition component for each school year within all IEPs; and incorporate a yearly evaluation of special needs programs’ effectiveness, based on the goals set out in the IEP, by the parent and the child, thereby forming the foundation of an on-going review and accountability process of service delivery models.
