Chilliwack school district invites public comment on policiesDecember 17, 2013

Author: Webmaster

The Chilliwack school district is encouraging public comment on proposed policy changes.

The district has started posting draft policies that are under review by the education policy advisory committee on its website and inviting comments before those policies are submitted to the board of education for a vote, the Chilliwack Times reports.

The committee is now reviewing three policies:

1. Interrogation of students by police in schools (which says such interrogation should not happen unless necessary and in such cases, a parent or guardian should be present).

2. Administering medicines to students (which sets guidelines for the administration of medications).

3. Physical education (which encourages teachers to provide supervision and leadership in a range of extracurricular athletic activities).

Comments or suggestions about these draft policies should be sent to donna_dove@sd33.bc.ca Find full details here.

Are other school districts taking similar steps to encourage public comment?
