2015.22 Reflective Clothing RecommendationsApril 8, 2015

Author: Webmaster

Submitted by: Central Okanagan Parent Advisory Council (COPAC); SD #23

Be it resolved that
BCCPAC advocate for guidelines that require reflective material on all winter outerwear that is supplied to students for school sponsored programs.

Proposer’s Position Statement Supporting the Resolution:
The reflective material would make pedestrians and cyclists more visible during the winter, which would address an important safety concern with our limited daylight in Canadian winters. Students involved in before and after school programs, like sports, band, clubs etc. often are walking on roadways before or after daylight hours. Outerwear, which is often provided to students, or purchased by them through the school as a program identifier, or uniform item, should have reflective markers to enhance visibility.

Implementers:
BCCPAC, Ministry of Education, BC School Trustees Association

Interested Parties:
BC School Superintendents’ Association, BC Teachers’ Federation, BC Principals and Vice Principals’ Association
